Anti-Aging/Functional Medicine

Brandi Grimmer, LPhT, CNC Certified Nutritional Consultant Keystone-Nutrition

Anti-aging/functional medicine attempts to keep individuals healthy and functioning regardless of their age. The overall goal of functional medicine is the prevention of disease. Anti-aging medicine attempts to prevent the underlying causes of aging and, thereby, alleviate or reduce age-related illness.
The list of supplements that can be called “anti-aging” can vary greatly depending on the authority. However, omega-3 essential fatty acids  are a must for anti-aging. Coenzyme Q-10 is another popular supplement to support cardiovascular and mental health. Alpha lipoic acid  assists in the regulation of blood glucose and the support of liver function and detoxification. Finally, vitamin D is a critical nutrient used by our bodies for immune health, bone-density support, cancer prevention and mental health. While proper diet, adequate exercise and a healthy lifestyle are the foundation for minimizing aging and disease, daily intake of some critical nutrients can assist in maintaining optimal health.
